I've never really used Chessbase so perhaps I'm odd. Basically to me having direct access to the data is worth more than anything chessbase could offer. The only thing I miss are the embedded videos. The pgn format is not perfect but good enough for most tasks (using scid or your own programs). I'm a programmer, that's what they are, technically speaking I guess my "they're just PGN files with annotated games" was a bit simplistic. I usually open them in Scid, keeping a Tree Window to my main big database open that way I can get a list of games containing the position I'm looking at instantly anyway, so it's easy enough to go to the entire game if the game in the ebook is only given in part. ![]() It seems to me that you are missing out on an awful lot of functionality - the guiding text with links to the openings, with further links straight to the games at the end of the appropriate variations, in particular.
